MEET

Jean Becker-Sullivan, LPC, CAS-II, CCC
Certified Career Counselor @ Center for Higher Consciousness

A message from Sarah McKelvey, MA, LPC, Director of Center for Higher Consciousness:

Jean and I have been colleagues since 2018 and increasingly process thoughts about what it's like working in the mental health field as well as discuss collaborations and creative endeavors which channel our clinical talents and gifts that express our inclinations for supporting people in our community in ways we really believe in and ways we intuit they really need.

We are living in times characterized by disruption, uncertainty, unease, and the erosion of our 20th Century sources of stability. The task at hand is to grow psychologically with the times by becoming more resilient, flexible, and adaptable in order to survive and thrive within our ever-changing environments where we can easily establish new normals.

In particular, our careers and work life require fresh reflection and deep investigation in order to prepare for inspired possibilities of adjustment, new alignment, and recalibration.

The COVID-19 pandemic has induced large-scale societal shifts in the way we think about work and the way we will end up working in the coming years ahead of us. We are witnessing the beginnings of what's been called the Great Resignation and what
Richard Florida of the University of Toronto in a late 2021 article in the Economist called "the Great Unmooring" related to of an upwards of 13% of Americans.planning to relocate due to the WFH (work from home) movement and the new normal of remote working conditions. More broadly, we are facing major overhauls in the majority of our industries due to technological revolutions and rapidly shifting global needs. If we approach such with a dialectical spirit [a sentiment taught in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)], as well as with an optimistic attitude, we may appreciate the hidden opportunities and latent values in such a time respecting qualities like dynamic growth and the effects of positive change. This can help us perceive what's happening as an invitation of renewal.

Combining these reflections on societal changes that have a major impact on our work life with a perspective on the individual which values personal happiness, our own legitimate desires for work-life balance, professional satisfaction, and the quest for meaningful work, responsive career counseling is an important resource for our community to be able to have access to and make use of. With the help of professional guidance and clinical expertise, a career counselor can assist us in the necessary assessments, concrete clarifications, and preparatory work needed to make creative, bold, and opportunistic career pivots.

In June 2022, Jean Becker-Sullivan, in collaboration with Center for Higher Consciousness, will launch her signature program CareerSketch Journey which guides adults of all ages and walks of life through a structured process that helps them clarify their career path, take action on behalf of what they've learned, and develop confidence in taking steps toward creating a meaningful and lucrative future.

If you want to become conscious in your career identity, make empowered and informed decisions, and clarify your career direction, check out the detailed overview of CareerSketch Journey here.

Jean has a knack for helping people clarify what's not working in their current situations and for patiently and supportively assessing what options are available. She is intuitive, insightful, and draws out strengths, assets, and emerging directions from people she listens to and interacts with. She specifically elicited some deep longings I was harboring to make some shifts in my professional roles in a way no one else had done. I would highly recommend Jean as a career counselor for her combined experience in the helping profession counseling others, in her own experiences as a working woman and entrepreneur, and in her formal training in career development, which blend into a powerful career process yielding promising leads.
